Name | Type | Units | Depends On | Category | Subcategory |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Has Throttle | Boolean | none | none | Electrical | Throttle |
Has Throttle indicates if the bike configuration has an included throttle. A throttle allows the motor to provide power even if you are not pedaling. Optional accessories are not included in this criteria.
Some models indicate that their throttle is removable, allowing the e-bike to be Class 1 compatible with the throttle removed.
E-bike Classes
There are three classes of e-Bikes that are generally recognized in the United States. The regulations can vary by state and locality and we recommend you determine the applicable regulations in your area.
- Class 1: pedal assist only with a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph.
- Class 2: pedal assist and throttle with a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph for both.
- Class 3: pedal assist (and perhaps throttle) with a maximum assisted speed of 28 mph for pedal assist and 20 mph for throttle.
